Revamped, Expanded DIY Digital Synthesis
Korg devised the inaugural NTS-1 DIY kit as a means to afford tenured and aspiring musicians to truly own their sound, providing comprehensive synth sonics in a portable package. Never content to settle, Korg’s Nu:Tekt NTS-1 MKII DIY digital synthesizer kit has reimagined this lauded mini machine to better suit the modern musical landscape Much to the delight of City Music;s synthesists, Korg upgraded the MKII to feature an 18-key multi-touch keyboard, allowing for precision performances and detailed control. And that all-access playability will be doubly valuable, thanks to the powerful new synth engine, augmenting the original’s sonic armature with further modulation possibilities, expressive effects, more oscillator styles, and an 8-step sequencer to complement the compositional capabilities afforded by the original’s arpeggiator. Don’t worry, that’s back. Its extended connectivity comprises three pairs of 3.5-millimeter TRS I/O jacks: Audio, Sync, and MIDI. With more processing power and sonic tools than ever before, the NTS-1 MKII takes DIY sound to new dimensions just waiting to be explored.
Note: This is a DIY kit that requires complete assembly to function. No soldering is needed; all necessary tools and instructions are included with your purchase. Please contact your City Music Sales Engineer with any questions or concerns.
More connections, more power, more musical possibilities
Reimagining the NTS-1’s I/O suite serves two primary purposes. For one, it moves them all to the MKII’s rear panel, not only clearing the way for better access to the multi-touch keyboard and expanded sound design tools but also minimizing any hassle with integrating its interoperative possibilities into your setup. Second, it replaces the Micro-USB port with a USB-C port and adds a dedicated MIDI output, empowering flexible performance and composition opportunities with any number of external instruments with the 8-step sequencer. Moreover, the sequencer includes a step-recorder mode, in addition to saving functionality to recall your carefully crafted parameters before powering down your MKII. Increased processing power does more than introduce more oscillators, extending modulation capabilities with the Audio input for use with external sources for FM, AM, and even ring-modulated sounds. Effects have also been broadened to include overdrive and fuzz options, alongside sine-folding, hard and soft clipping, phasers, flangers, delays, and much more to explore.
Open-source opportunities for endless Nu:Tekt expansion
In channeling true DIY ethos, Korg provided a solid slew of supports for the NTS-1 MKII, not limited to the personalization options achieved with the reversible panels or capacity for cosmetic and functional augmentation. An open development API uses a dedicated logueSDK to enable you to customize existing effects or craft entirely new oscillators from scratch to share with the world. Then, using Korg’s Librarian Software, you can seamlessly transfer and manage your sounds, loading them straight onto your NTS-1 MKII.
