Reissued and Gunning for Glory: the 1957 Goldtop Returns

As Epiphone’s Inspired by Gibson Custom range expands, so does your chance to score a seismic slice of 6-string history, with the revamped 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue — one of the most-coveted iterations of the iconic Goldtop lineage, both in terms of Gibson’s Custom Shop and instruments from the era. Thanks to advances in laser-scanning replication technologies, Epiphone has produced the most historically accurate reproduction of the 1957 Les Paul Goldtop, at a fraction of the cost of a Gibson Custom equivalent. This Epiphone reissue distinguishes itself from previous iterations, now including a premium rosewood fretboard, period-accurate smaller frets, and a galvanizing pair of USA Custombucker pickups, which City Music’s sound scholars agree masterfully capture the lauded PAF style of the original axe. With such exacting attention to detail, Epiphone’s history-honoring Inspired by Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue elevates your sonic prowess to ferocious dimensions of time-tested tone and style.

The quintessential golden formula

Nothing compares to the power, sustain, and brilliance of a mahogany body topped with maple! The 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue utilizes timeless, traditional Les Paul tonewoods with a solid mahogany body and neck, plus a maple top. The result is a responsive sound and mellow clean tones that morph into thick, gargantuan power when paired with a dirty amp. The Les Paul Goldtop Reissue’s smooth mahogany neck features a 1957 Rounded C profile, topped with a 24.75-inch-scale rosewood fingerboard for welcoming playability, and the neck is further enhanced with a long neck tenon that extends slightly into the body for added sustain and improved durability.

Custombucker pickup power

Every part of the 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue’s electronics is built for exactingly vintage accuracy. Of course, it’s next to impossible to find genuine vintage PAF pickups (even for Gibson); however, this Les Paul sports two unpotted Gibson USA Custombucker pickups, the most faithful substitute you can find. The Custombucker is the most historically accurate PAF copy ever, with an open tone and incredible dynamic response that simply must be heard. Epiphone also added premium wiring components, including a Switchcraft jack and CTS potentiometers — it all adds up to a period-precise 6-string that blends the best of past-meets-present performance panache.

Period-precise performance

Contrasted with Epiphone’s previous endeavors, this round of Inspired by Gibson Custom guitars is Epiphone’s most accurate to date, thanks in no small part to the company’s laser-scanning replication technologies and the top-notch craftsmanship of Gibson Custom Shop. This 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue trades the laurel fretboards of previous runs for authentic rosewood, with all-around body and fretboard upgrades performed courtesy of Gibson Custom Shop. Each portion is framed by tasteful single-ply binding, while the era-honoring trapezoid inlays command the attention of everyone in the room, thanks to prismatic mother-of-pearl that also features in the headstock inlay. What’s more, the frets have been retooled to meet the demands of Epiphone’s uncompromising commitment to historical accuracy, returning one of the original’s most-lauded details: 2.03mm x 1.09mm frets. A Graph Tech nut and a hexad of Keystone-button-endowed Epiphone Deluxe tuners complement the ABR-1 bridge and Historic Reissue stopbar tailpiece. For onboard sound crafting via Master Volume and Tone controls for each Custombucker, amber top hat control knobs supply style and substance in equal measure.
